Living in a house or apartment with no vacuum cleaner truly sucks. And truthfully, that is exactly what is needed but from a different standpoint. No matter what kind of floor a person has, whether it is wood, carpet or tile, it is hard to keep the dust bunnies and bits of fluff from accumulating and giving the appearance of being dirty. No one should be without a vacuum cleaner. It just doesnt make sense. Instead of life sucking, let the vacuum take over and make life relaxing and enjoyable.
It used to be that people had to get on their hands and knees to brush up lint and other paraphernalia dragged in on peoples feet. Using a broom was somewhat effective but time consuming and tiring. Often times the housewife had to drag the rug outside and methodically thrash it with a carpet beater until most of the dirt was removed.
Back in the mid 1800s a man called Ives McGaffey invented what he called the sweeping machine. This baby was quite the contraption and worked off a hand pumped suction device. Selling these machines would prove difficult as most people could not afford one and really didnt think it was worthy of all the work it required.
Instead of selling machines, a man called John Thurman invented a gas powered vacuum cleaner and being an entrepreneur he sold his service from door to door. This was in the early 1900s and the idea was beginning to take off that a machine could be build that could be motorized and possibly used by everyone.
One of the most popular and well built vacuum cleaners to date has been sold to individuals since the early 1900s. Again it was for the rich, but who else would so enjoy the luxury of a hand held sucking machine that could suck up dirt and dust into a bag and eliminate that nasty grime. William Hoover bought the design off James Spangler and the rest is history. The Hoover vacuum cleaner became one of the most popular household products sold by household appliance companies for over a hundred years.
Today every house has a vacuum cleaner. It is not necessarily a Hoover brand as many store sell a variety of different makes and models to suit everyones needs. There are light ones, heavy ones, small ones, big ones, vacuums that suck up water to vacuums that lie flat to reach under furniture. Now there are vacuums that dont require bags to replace and vacuums that rotate on a ball to get into hard to reach areas. Most vacuums are relatively inexpensive and are easy to acquire. There is no reason for life to suck without one.
